Chicks 5T Blog
When the chicks arrived everyone enjoyed admiring the eggs and where thrilled that soon they would hatch and we could hold them when they became bigger. We were only expecting 5 of the eggs to hatch however it was a positive result that 9 out of the 10 of the chicks hatched.
It was amazing when we witnessed not one but two chicks hatch when one of which when we filmed as time-lapse that we will be sharing with the rest of the school in assembly.
The novel we are studying in English this half term is Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.
The factory where Michael's Mum and Dad work closes down and they are unable to find new work. His Dad comes up with the idea to sail around the world, as the family love sailing. The decision to go is made and they set off from Southampton on their adventure.
Washed up on an island in the Pacific, Michael struggles to survive on his own. With no food and no water he curls up to die.
When he wakes there is a plate of food beside him of fish, of fruit and a bowl of fresh water.
He is not alone..........
Hit the Button Championship Spring 2
Spring 2 saw the first 'Hit the Button' class championship in 5T. All pupils had a go, which was great. In 3rd place was Isaac with 30, runner up was Niamh 32 and this half term the winner was Leighton with 36!!! (The same as Mr T!!). Well done everyone and your target is to beat your own score next half term.
In 5T we have been learning about Earth and Space. To enhance our learning we had a visit from Wayne Harrison who is a science specialist. We planned and carried out an experiment to see whether a rocket (which we had made) would travel further if we used a large or small pop bottle to power the rocket launcher.
We worked in pairs to create a rocket and then predicted what would happen. We went outside and tested the rocket by launching it once using a large pop bottle and again using a smaller pop bottle. We recorded the results.
Take a look at our photos.
Who will be 5T's Times Tables Champion?
During registration we have been testing our times tables using 'Hit the Button'.
Compete at home to see who is your family champion!
The current leaders are Leighton & Isaac with 28. Well done!
In literacy we are studying the novel Frozen in Time.
Freddy and Polly have always known their father is a genius. So they've never minded helping him with his experiments. Even when that means being put into cryonic suspension-having their hearts frozen until their father wakes them up again. They know it will only be for an hour or two, so there's nothing to worry about...
Ben and Rachel have resigned themselves to a long, boring summer. Then they find the hidden underground vault in the garden-and inside it two frozen figures, a boy and a girl. And as if that isn't spooky enough, when Rachel accidentally presses a button, something unbelievable happens...
Can Polly and Freddy adapt to the twenty-first century? Will their bodies survive having been in suspension for so long? And most important of all, what happened to their father-and why did he leave them frozen in time?
If you are absent visit the website to get a summary of each chapter.
The story so far…….
In chapter one Ben and Rachel have a boring summer. Until they find this circular man hole and try to dig it up.
In chapter two they open the hatch inside they find a small hole. They climb down into it.
On entering they heard a recorded message,
‘You are entering a secure zone. If you are contaminated turn back now.’
In chapter three they find objects from 1950’s such as Izal, Spam and Spangles.
In chapter 4 they find three torpedoes and one is empty, but the other two have humans! Then they see Frederick and Pauline (Polly) then let them out!
Chapter 5. Polly and Fredrick get woken up and brought into the house. Whilst having a cup of tea Uncle Jerome recognises them and faints.
Uncle Jerome (Ben and Rachel’s Uncle) discovers that Freddy and Polly are his aunt and uncle. He is 59 and Freddy is only 13.
