Collective Worship

At Durham Blue Coat CE Junior School, we are a school with a strong Christian ethos where all children are welcomed, valued, happy, well-supported and enthusiastic learners.

We aim to develop personal values through the teachings of the Christian faith and an understanding and respect for other people’s beliefs and cultures.

Worshipping together is a central part of school life. The whole school joins together daily to share inspirational messages, sing songs and offer prayers. Worship enriches the spiritual life of the school community and enables people to develop as reflective and unique individuals. Worship happens at the end of the school day and celebrates that day, allowing children to take key messages home.

Worship is planned by pupils, staff, the headteacher and members of the church. The themes closely align with our Christian vision and values and biblical teaching.

All teachers take it in turns to deliver worship to the whole school.  Every Thursday, Reverend Caroline Dick from All Saints Church attends school to deliver worship. We have class reflection time and dedicated spaces for prayer which reinforces worship themes.

Parents are carers are invited to attend school worship which enables them to feel part of the wider spiritual community.

Collective Worship is an important time for all of us to gather together to learn, worship and grow in our understanding of God and of ourselves.
