Admissions

Currently on roll we have 236 pupil across years 3 to 6. April 2024

The Governing Body of Durham Blue Coat Church of England (Aided) Junior School is the Admissions Authority for the school

We intend to admit up to 60 pupils to the Year 3 classes in September.  This arrangement follows consultation between the governing body, the Local Authority, all other schools in the area and all other Admission Authorities in the area.

Applications must be made on the Local Authority Common Application Form.  This form must be returned to the Local Authority.  Applications received after the closing date will only be considered after all those received by the closing date.

If you wish your child to attend Blue Coat School, please read our admissions policy above and then fill in an application form, even if your child attends Newton Hall Infant School and/or you live in the admission zone for the school.  Please note, attendance at Newton Hall Infant School does not guarantee you a place at Blue Coat School.

Waiting Lists will be kept and parents informed if a place becomes available.  The waiting list will be structured according to our admission criteria, therefore priority will be given to families who fulfil a criterion further up the list, rather than those families who have waited longest.

Where a parent has been notified that a place is not available for a child, every effort will be made to help the parent to find a place in a suitable alternative school.  Parents who are refused a place have a statutory right of appeal.  Further details of the appeal process are available by writing to the Chair of Governors at the school address.

In Year Admissions

Any one wishing to apply to transfer their child to Blue Coat mid year must complete the mid year transfer form on the link below for Durham County Council Admissions.  All applications will receive a letter direct from Durham County Council responding to your request letting you know the outcome.

If you are not offered a place please contact the school by writing to the Chair of Governors to access the appeals process.
