History

Our History curriculum is a powerful testament to our vision, "with God all things are possible," as it reveals how individuals and societies have overcome the "impossible" throughout time. We cultivate wisdom by teaching pupils to interrogate evidence, understand the complexity of human motivation, and learn from the triumphs and mistakes of the past. It takes courage for children to confront difficult narratives and to see themselves as future "history-makers" who can stand up against injustice. This study of the human story sparks a profound sense of joy and wonder as children connect with their heritage and the diverse lives of those who came before them, inspiring them with the belief that they, too, have the potential to shape a better world.

Our pupils are curious about the past. They enquire about the causes of historical events and understand the impact that these have had - cause and consequence. Through their history lessons, pupils learn the variety of ways in which the past is represented and are taught to interpret a range of sources, both primary and secondary. They develop a secure understanding of chronology. The skills acquired in history equip pupils to consider and evaluate current world events and to predict the possible effects these will have on the future.
